How to make an infinite water source

One of the fun things about Minecraft that keeps its players hooked into the game is that you can create your own world with it. You can build yourself a mansion, a bed, craft a table and a lot of other stuff that you want and need.

The tricky part in this is that in order to build, you also have to acquire things because just like in real life, you can’t just create something out of nothing. To build a torch, you need to have charcoal and wood. To make a house, you will be needing dirt, cobblestone or wood, depending on how you would want your house to look like. And lastly, to build a water collection system, you will need an infinite water source.

What is an infinite water source?

An infinite water source in Minecraft is like a well that you will make to get water from. Say for example, you are in Survival Mode and you want to plant your crops in a place that is too far from a river, you will need to harvest water from a river or lake first, and then create your infinite water source to where you are staying. This will allow you to have an endless source of water, and you will no longer have to travel to the river or lake just so you can water your plants.

Did you know that back in the days when Minecraft had just launched, an infinite water source was a block of stationary water that could generate water infinitely. However, due to glitches experienced by players whenever two infinite water source blocks are placed beside each other, this block has been removed.

In the recent versions of Minecraft, you can now make your own infinite water source, and these are the steps on how to do it.

Things that you need to create an infinite water source

What you need to create an infinite water source depends whether you are in Survival Mode or Creative Mode.

If you are in Survival Mode, you might be needing to craft a bucket first, go to a nearby river or lake to fetch water. If you want to know how to create a bucket in Minecraft, you can click on this link.

However, if you are in Creative Mode, you can just acquire water from the Inventory.

How to make an infinite water source in Minecraft

You can make an infinite water source by digging a 2×2 square in the ground and putting water on one end of the square. At this point, you can observe that the water is still flowing. What you should do next is to put another water block right across on the opposite end from where you have put the first water block in the square. You will see that the water in the square is flowing, but will immediately look stationary. This means that you have successfully created your own water source

How to create an infinite water source with two buckets of water

1. Dig 2×2 square in the ground

2. Put a bucket of water on one end of the square.

Where you’d want to put the first block of water does not matter.

3. Put water right across the opposite end of the first water block that you have placed in the square that you dug up.

This is a crucial step, because if you put the next water source to the adjacent space of the first water block that you put, the water in that square will not turn into an infinite water source.

An infinite water source should look like this:

If you have failed in creating an infinite water source, it will look like it’s still moving and your water source will eventually run out when you harvest water from it.

How to create an infinite water source with just one bucket of water

If you have forgotten to get 2 buckets of water and you do not want to go back to the river or lake again to get one, here is an easy trick to create your infinite source of water.

Dig a 2×2 square and put one block of wood in one of the corners of the square. You will then end up having an L-shaped well. After which, in the opposite end where you have put your block of wood, place another block of wood. This wood will serve as a wall where you can place your only bucket of water.

When you do this, you will observe that the water will flow to all directions in the L-shape hole that you dug up. You can then get two water buckets out of that flowing water.
