Why Does Forge Keep Crashing

As a Minecraft player, one of the many things that keep this game interesting are the mods that you can download to take your game to the next level. Mods like Valentine’s Day allow you to put your cute minecraft date ideas into action, or Pixelmon allows you to play with Pokemons while you are in Minecraft. However, you can’t just download and install mods right away- you will need Minecraft Forge to run it successfully. The only problem is when Forge itself keeps crashing while you play.

If you ever wonder why does forge keep crashing, here are the probable reasons for that:

  1. You didn’t install Forge properly.
  2. The version of Forge that you’re using is not compatible with the Minecraft version that you are using
  3. Some of the mods that you are using is not compatible with each other
  4. You are using an outdated mod in your mod folder.
  5. There’s no sufficient memory to run your mods.

You didn’t install Forge properly.

One of the most common reasons why Forge keeps crashing when you try to launch it is that you did not install it properly. To correct this mistake, I would highly suggest that you uninstall the Minecraft app from your computer, install it again, download and install Java, then immediately install Forge after.

How to Install Forge on Windows/Mac 2021:

  1. Open the Minecraft Launcher.

  2. Go to the Forge site and select a version for your operating system and Minecraft version.

  3. Click the ‘’Skip’’ button on the upper right corner of the page.

  4. Download Forge.
  5. Once you have downloaded it, transfer the file to your desktop.
  6. Launch your the installer and click ‘’Install Client.’’ (If you don’t see this option, or if the downloaded file won’t start, you might need to download Java first. )
  7. Click ‘’Ok’’ and follow on-screen instructions.

8. Open the Minecraft Launcher again. (It should say ‘Forge’ on the left part of the play button.)

The version of Forge that you’re using is not compatible with the Minecraft version that you are using

Whether you are using Bedrock or Java to play, they also come with different versions that offer different tweaks. The latest Minecraft version right now is 1.18 which was launched last November 30, 2021.

If you are using this latest or a version earlier than that like 1.17, you have to use the same Minecraft Forge version in order to use it. If you are using the Minecraft 1.18 version then install Minecraft Forge 1.17, chances are you might be able to run it but it will crash even before you enter the game.

To fix this, you just have to go to the official Minecraft Forge website, click the compatible version with the version that you are using on Minecraft, then download it.

The mod that you want to use is not compatible with each other.

There are a lot of existing mods in Minecraft. As of today, CurseForge has over 89,000 mods in their website, and it’s just so tempting to use them all as you play. The only problem with this is that some mods are not compatible with each other, and they eventually cause Forge to crash.

You have two options on how to fix this: first is you have to check if the mods use the same API/Framework/Loader or compare the .class files they contain. Some mods also include disclaimers that they don’t work with other mods so that can give you some heads up.

You have an outdated mod in your mod folder.

In case you don’t know, you have to delete outdated mods in your mod folder, because as Minecraft gets an update, it also changes rewrites and changes the code that the old mod that you are using relies on, so it wouldn’t work.

The good thing is, it is pretty easy to remove outdated mods in your mod folder. Here are the steps on how to do it:

  1. Press on the windows key and type %appdata%
  2. Open the Roaming folder
  3. Double click the .minecraft folder
  4. Go to the mods folder
  5. Individually delete mods

If you want to delete all of your mods:

  1. Right click on the bin folder.
  2. Click delete.

There’s no sufficient memory to run Minecraft Forge

Minecraft on its own requires at least 4GB of memory in a laptop for it to run. If you are planning to download Minecraft Forge to run mods while you play, you should have at least 8GB of RAM for it to run smoothly. Failure to have this storage capacity in your computer will result in Minecraft not loading properly or Minecraft Forge to crash everytime you play.

Why do I need to use mod?

If you are a beginner, the concept of mods might be new to you so we’ll try to explain how to use mods and what can you do with it.

Minecraft might suck because of many reasons, but it is mostly due to its bad graphics, somber music, and the bugs that you will come across with as you play. Now mods modify the game itself- it can introduce new characters, change the gameplay, and improve the graphics as you play.

In conclusion

If Minecraft Forge keeps on crashing upon start up, you might have installed Forge incorrectly; the version of Forge that you’re using might not be compatible with the Minecraft version that you are using; some of the mods that you are using are not compatible with each other; or maybe you are using an outdated mod in your mod folder; or perhaps, there’s might not be sufficient memory to run your mods.

Whatever the reason is, we hope the quick fix that we have given above helped you figure things out so you don’t get bored with playing Minecraft and you can finally enjoy whichever mod you’d want!
